A few years ago, I was looking for ways to reduce stress and improve my environment. To start, I began filling my office with various types of plants. This sparked my interest in carnivorous plants, and I soon became fascinated by them.
One weekend, Cherie and I were out shopping when I noticed an Exo Terra vivarium on sale. It immediately caught my eye, and I jokingly said, “That looks like it could be fun.” Cherie, being the wonderful partner she is, decided to buy it for me!
Now, with a large 36x18x18 vivarium in my hands, I needed to figure out what to do with it. Naturally, I decided to start a new adventure with some poison dart frogs!
The journey began in May 2019 as I started building the vivarium. I installed a false bottom, foamed the background, and replaced the screen with glass plates. I then drilled the glass to accommodate spray heads and other sensors.
By the end of July, the tank had grown enough to add the new residents. The frogs are now happy and thriving in their new home, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding hobby.
Two years later, I decided to build an additional custom glass enclosure from scratch. This was inspired by the fact that I had allowed four of the tadpoles to morph, and they were growing fast. I wanted to provide them with a new, spacious home to thrive in.
